Quick Hits

• Spoiler season is officially a wrap. MTGGoldfish's Sept 17–18 gallery rounds up all the remaining Reality Fracture cards, capping a preview run whose pacing across rarities — and zero leaks — has Rosewater passing kudos along to the preview team.
• Sphinx's Approach can be run in unlimited copies, and DraftSim has already dug up a combo with a forgotten old rare. Unsurprisingly, FRA is moving prices in week one.
• Discord, Lord of Disharmony got a walkthrough straight from Rosewater: at your end step, name any nonland card, then you may cast a copy of it with whatever color mana you wish — and if you do, the ability copies while Discord is on the battlefield.
• Tam, the Possibility's planeswalker card is "in the future." She's a legendary creature in FRA because she isn't a walker for most of the story, and the set was already loaded with planeswalkers.

Set News

The full Reality Fracture card set is now known — MTGGoldfish's final gallery covers everything from the last two days of previews. One open question: the Turbulent land cycle from SoS still isn't finished, with only three copies showing up (all in the Jace precon). Rosewater says the cycle is "slowly rolling out," though he gave no timeline.

Commander Corner

The rules question of the day: Discord, Lord of Disharmony. Rosewater clarified the sequencing — at the beginning of your end step you name a nonland card, you're then allowed to cast a copy of it using whatever color mana you wish, and casting that copy triggers the ability-copying clause as long as Discord is on the battlefield. Expect this one to spawn some wild end-step engines.

Some precon grumbling made the rounds, with one player noting the new commanders skew expensive (one at 5 mana, six at 6, five at 7, plus 9- and 10-drops). Rosewater's response: "What you dislike makes another player very happy," noting this particular deck was a slower one by design.

On the brew front, DraftSim breaks down Niv-Mizzet, Ghost Counsel — the colorshifted Izzet(?) dragon from the polymorph-flavored Multiverse Reforged precon — and finds combo lines with classic villains. Meanwhile, Commander Clash asks whether three budget decks can take down a cEDH deck in Archenemy format.

From EDHREC: a mono-white lifegain Angels deck helmed by Lyra, Archangel of Dawn; a cEDH data dive on Arcum Dagsson; a Precon Remastered of Commander 2015's Call the Spirits; and one-mana auras ranked for The Unluckiest Planeswalker.

Competitive Scene

• Pauper: Joe Dyer checks out how Zeta Set is already influencing paper Pauper.
• Pioneer: Single Scoop ports a soul-crushing Modern Boros deck over and finds the Pioneer variant "isn't too far off" — a menace, but fun for the pilot.
• Standard: Much Abrew tests whether The Sackville-Bagginses can anchor a new mutagen-style aristocrats sacrifice deck.
• Vintage: Vintage 101 spotlights Defiler of Chaos in Joe Dyer's look at Jewel Shops.

Limited & Draft

With the full gallery live, one notable Q&A: a player tallied FRA's uneven rare counts (green sitting at just six rares) and worried about draft balance. Rosewater's take: "Rare color balance has very little impact on limited."

And for Thunder Junction fans hoping for a return trip beyond a villains set — Magic is "a hungry monster," so most worlds come back eventually. Notably, even players who don't normally draft are saying FRA has them tempted to queue up.

Finance & Market

Reality Fracture previews are rattling the market: DraftSim's weekly spike report says Jace shenanigans have already sent a couple of cards climbing, and MTGStocks' Weekly Winners calls FRA "a set to look out for" on the strength of some genuinely strange cards. Also worth a look for value hunters: the all-reprint Foundations Commander decklists at $29.99 each.

Design & Lore

The Echoverse is generating design talk in every direction:

• Tam stays grounded: She's a legendary creature in FRA because she isn't a planeswalker for the vast majority of the story, and the set already had plenty of walkers — but her planeswalker card is "in the future."
• Jaya's near-miss: She was designed as one of Hexhaven's five deans — dead characters, per Mark — but the team opted for the echo pairs and just one dead character in the main set.
• No anti-Jace mechanic? The anti-side is basically the Lorwyn Five minus Jace, plus Vraska — too low as-fan for a mechanic, and mostly planeswalkers anyway.
• Sagas were skipped on purpose: They're deciduous, and Reality Fracture consciously chose not to use them — with more reasoning promised in the Vision Design Handoff document.
• Why isn't Jace green? Because he's changing the natural order — and when pressed on the Echoverse reversing that logic, Mark countered that "the entire Echoverse is a cry against the natural order."

Rapid fire: Modern Horizons is "more Time Spiral 2 than Future Sight 2"; an artifact-Theros Echoverse set is "not super likely"; Future Shifted basics get only a "perhaps one day"; and more "Fresh out of Design" podcast episodes are recorded.
