  • MagicCon Amsterdam is officially the gift that keeps on giving. We just got our first major look at Reality Fracture, and the set is delivering some absolutely wild versions of classic cards. If the Darksteel Angel and hints at Mirrodin Pure are anything to go by, this set is going to be an absolute banger for Vorthos and Melvin alike.
  • Mark Rosewater officially confirmed the end of the three-year announcement cycle, explaining that spacing out reveals makes for much more exciting days like the one we just had.

Focusing solely on the business side of things, if Universes Beyond sets tend to perform so much better than in-universe sets, why continue making in-universe sets at all? If there comes a time that the Universes Beyond products sell consistently, say, 10 times as much as any new in-universe set, would that be a signal to the company that it is time to retire the in-universe storyline and focus only on licensed products, a la Weiß Schwarz?

Hi. Just want to say that the first looks for the in universe sets made so excited for next year. All three sets seem fresh and beautifully creative but at the same time so much like what I always loved about magic. The worldbuilding looks fantastic. Can’t wait for the next year to come.

Nauctis looks great! I noticed in the panel that you all decided to create to a new evasion mechanic for the set. Was there any discussion of using Shadow again (this time flavored for ‘the deep, dark parts of the ocean’)? Or was part of your vision in building Nauctis that you really wanted the set to feel like evasion plays out differently there, not just a 'seahorsemanship’ reskinning?

what’s the read on Tolabow? i interpret it as you can have instants and sorceries of all 5 colors as long as each individual instant or sorcery only has 1 additional color. ie: Growth Spiral and Dovin’s Veto both being allowed. or is it just the one color for every instant and sorcery?

Hello. I’m really excited about the new 2027 sets. Zhalfir (finally), Kamigawa + Ikoria, and the new plane of Nauticus. I just ask that they please give us a lot, but A LOT of articles about the artistic design of the sets and planes, they’ve lost that great tradition that used to feed us about the history and mythology of Magic.

A set without flying will be interesting. I’m excited to see how seahorsemanship will fare in the underwater set. I’ll be really disappointed if seahorsemanship isn’t the name of the mechanic by the way. If it isn’t the name, I hope it was discussed.

I’m stoked for 2027 but it’s fascinating to me that what makes each set exciting is so different from the others. Nauctis I’m excited for the setting and sense of discovery, Kamigawa I’m excited for the battles and gameplay, Zhalfir I’m excited for the story, history and design language. What are the chances we see an underwater afrofuturist mecha set in the coming years?

Should we think of Kamigawa: Titanbreach as a Kamigawa vs Ikoria set or as primarily a Kamigawa set? The name including one plane name but not the other makes it seem like they are not on equal footing.

hey, Mark! a quick storytime with a point. I played yugioh in middle school, and one of my friends I played with wanted to introduce me to magic with the newest set: champions of kamigawa. I thought it was weird, kinda ugly, and didn’t play very well (I had the monored bushido intro deck), so I bounced off it. it took me 10 whole years to pick up the game again with KTK and I loved it so much I’ve been playing ever since. so I’ve held a personal grudge against kamigawa for robbing me of 10 years of magic. when neon dynasty was announced I thought the idea of a japanese cyberpunk set was cool but disliked that it was bringing back kamigawa, so I skipped it. titanbreach is the set I’m looking forward to most next year and not begrudgingly so. the plane clash concept along with revisiting ikoria has me so excited it might just get me over my kamigawa grudge for good. I never thought it could happen, but I guess the answer all along was giant robots!
