HULK SMASHES RECORDS: MARVEL SUPER HEROES TAKES OVER THE MARKET AND COMMANDER!

Set News — spoilers, previews, announcements, bans, upcoming releases

  • The contents of the Marvel Super Heroes Scene Boxes have been officially revealed, capping off the set's spoiler season with six new heroes and villains per box. Draftsim has the full breakdown, making these a tempting grab for both collectors and brewers looking for specific staples.
  • WOTC has dropped the official Marvel Super Heroes Release Notes, giving players the comprehensive rules lowdown before they crack their first packs. Make sure to brush up on these before your next prerelease!
  • If you're looking to upgrade your cardboard collection, Gamegenic showed off some gorgeous upcoming Marvel-themed MTG sleeves. They might just be the perfect fit for your newly pre-ordered commander decks.
  • The MTG community continues to show off some incredible creativity outside of gameplay. One artist shared gorgeous scans of all 13 watercolor Sagas they painted for the Marvel set, while another player flexed an absolutely stunning hand-painted Lord of the Rings MTG tattoo sleeve.

Commander Corner — EDH highlights, new commanders, precon reviews, cEDH updates

  • The new Wakanda Commander precon is getting high praise from Mark Rosewater himself for its cohesive, visually striking art and solid decklist. Head Designer Ethan Fleischer is getting a well-deserved high-five for the build.
  • If you're looking to optimize your new Marvel brews, EDHREC has you covered with the Top 10 Equipment that make mana for Tony Stark. Just don't sleep on Lotus Ring!
  • Players on Reddit are already crying out for a Commander Masters 2 set, arguing that the sheer volume of necessary reprints has hit a critical mass across the format.
  • For your daily dose of EDH debates: MaRo firmly stated that planeswalkers shouldn't be legal as commanders, noting that the Rules Committee views it as a vector for bad gameplay. If you just want some casual vibes instead, MTGGoldfish's Commander Clash features decks where every nonland card shares a keyword—get ready for some spicy Haste vs. Flying matchups.

Competitive Scene — tournament results, meta shifts, tier list changes, deck techs

  • If you're looking to grind some 60-card formats this weekend, MTGGoldfish has you covered. Joe Dyer dives deep into the Pauper meta and the latest Vintage developments for June 2026.
  • Over in Pioneer, the Single Scoop column celebrated its massive 800th episode with a spicy Dimir deck tech. See if this midrange list has what it takes to slice through the current tier one contenders.

Finance & Market — price spikes, reprint news, buy/sell targets, Reserved List updates

  • The market is officially feeling the impact of the Marvel Super Heroes release. According to MTGStocks' Weekly Winners and Draftsim's Price Spikes, the new Universes Beyond injections are moving serious cardboard right now.
  • Marvel Super Heroes has officially smashed the record for the most legendary creatures printed in a single Magic set. Draftsim breaks down what this unprecedented density means for the format and your binder.
  • Looking to break into Standard without breaking the bank? Check out the 30 Best Marvel Super Heroes Cards for Standard to find your next spec target or windmill slam bomb rare.

Design & Lore — Rosewater insights, story beats, worldbuilding, flavor deep dives

  • Mark Rosewater addressed the community's concerns about the "Legendary Rule problem," noting that while Universes Beyond sets are saturated with legends, the rule itself has been functioning exactly as intended for decades. Tumblr
  • Players are loving WOTC's new approach to reskinning classic MTG cards for UB sets instead of creating functional reprints that bloat the card pool. MaRo acknowledged the praise and hinted we might see this trend expanded for established legendary characters.
  • For the Vorthos players, the art design in the Marvel set is getting massive acclaim for flawlessly blending iconic comic color palettes with MTG color identities (like Doom's Grixis palette shining through his green and silver aesthetic). Tumblr

The Wakanda Commander looks awesome. By that I mean the art is cohesive and visually appealing. The deck seems pretty good too. High fives to all involved in that deck development please!

Have WoTC considered dropping instants without mass errata? That is, instead of using errata, just stop printing instants and replace them all with Sorceries with Flash?

You often talk about the “do you want to play again?” question. One Mood Swings game with my buddy, our LGS owner, and he was immediately thinking through what the pitch would look like for a customer and how to get his. Seems like a hit!

Hi Mark, I’ve been having a blast with Mood Swings, it’s got a real “just one more game!” quality to it that I haven’t felt from a game in a long long time. I hope the game succeeds well enough to get some expansions, and congrats on getting the game out!! I can’t wait to show it to more of my friends.

Hey Mark gotta say I was a bit surprised to see Mar-vell. Like my parents were still toddlers when he died so I was not expecting to see him flying around with all the others.

Mark! I finally got my copies of Mood Swings and I can’t wait to get playing! By the way, out of my 5 decks I pulled exactly 2 copies of Duplicity. Clever bit, but I’m on to you and your tricks!
Markrosewater · 2026-06-13
“That requires a lot more errata.” I’m fairly certain you said previously that the amount of cards that need would need the ‘unique’ marker was fairly low?

A second Mood Swings Headliner was found.

Pretty, but useless visualizations of MTG's Comprehensive Rules

This was posted to r/mtg on Reddit a couple days ago by u/Ok_Satisfaction8158. Is this one of the ‘message cards’ you mean? Could you explain 'hippi’?
Markrosewater · 2026-06-13
R.E Legendary Creatures I just want you to calm down on Legendaries overall in UB sets. Like, there are 5 She-Hulks coming out in Marvel Superheroes and its side products, and she’s barely the pinacle of the Marvel roster. I doubt you would print 5 copies of Chandra or Jace in a non-UB set.
Markrosewater · 2026-06-13
I know you aren’t the commander guy, but do you think that planeswalkers should be legal as commanders?
Markrosewater · 2026-06-13
If i recall correctly, you helped design, or at least name, force of will. I’m curious why the cost includes one life. It’s pretty inconsequential, even in 20 life formats, and the card is obviously good enough that a higher amount of paid life would balance it better. So, why the one life?
Markrosewater · 2026-06-13
If I play Split Screen, and it enters the battlefield but immediately gets taken control of by an opponent, it never “leaves the battlefield.” I still have 4 revealed libraries. HOWEVER, do I still get to choose which I draw from, if an opponent controls Split Screen? (This is an actual interaction that happened in a real game and I’m curious if we did it properly)
Markrosewater · 2026-06-13
Finally got to play mood swings! Assuming we got the rules right (suppressed moods count as 0 for card effects as well as scoring, right?), my buddy managed to play infinite moods using a combination of Thrill, Gluttony, Nostalgia, Guilt, and Disorientation. Fantastic game sir
