I think most of the confusion regarding tournament play and reprints of acorn cards is that there is actually no rule, neither in the CR nor in the MTR, about all cards with the same name being playable. There’s a rule in the CR saying that all cards function by their Oracle text, and there’s a rule in the MTR saying that all cards are assumed to have their Oracle text printed on them. But regarding playability, there is only a rule in the MTR saying that any black- or white-border card with the same name that has a Magic back and is an official Wizards product is interchangeably playable — no gold borders, no silver borders, and obviously no playtest cards are considered by this rule. This is the reason you can’t play a Magic 30 Ancestral Recall in a Vintage tournament, for instance. It’s not about the Oracle text — it actually has its Oracle text printed on it.
