The floodgates are open on Secrets of Strixhaven. Yesterday's massive spoiler wave dropped all five Commander precon decklists at once, giving us a full picture of what each college is bringing to the table. The new Paradigm mechanic is turning heads — Draftsim breaks down how it fixes the old Epic ability into something actually playable, and the design team deserves credit for dusting off one of Magic's weirdest mechanics and making it click. The new Rootha, Mastering the Moment is already breaking things. Draftsim found an infinite combo line with Breath of Fury that looks like it'll be a day-one cEDH talking point. Copy effects and extra combat steps — name a more iconic duo.

Draftsim ranked all five new Elder Dragons from the set, with Witherbloom, the Balancer sitting at the top. EDHREC also published a deep dive on removal philosophy in the Bracket era — essential reading if you're still calibrating your interaction suite for Brackets 1-4.

For the budget-minded, MTGGoldfish dropped 5 Commander decks under $5 that actually win games with mostly basics. And if you want to go the other direction, Draftsim updated their budget cEDH list for April with 12 viable options.

SaffronOlive went full send on opening 13 packs in a single draft — no cheating involved — in the latest Against the Odds. The line is as absurd as it sounds. Meanwhile, Maro fielded a question about Reality Fracture's M.C. Escher-style recursive boosters-inside-boosters and confirmed they're "still working on it." Somehow this wasn't an April Fool's joke.

Finance & Market

Foundations Play Booster boxes dropped roughly $60 — if you've been on the fence, this is a real window. Draftsim also has their updated April deals roundup for anyone hunting value.

On the color pie front, Maro confirmed that Plow Under is still in green's identity — its two-decade reprint drought is a power-level call, not a philosophy one. Don't expect it in a Standard set anytime soon, but it's not off the table for supplemental products.

Design & Lore

Maro's Tumblr was firing on all cylinders. The biggest lore nugget: Dimir and Lorehold are apparently "half step-cousins" and their relationship will be explored in Reality Fracture. Cross-plane faction connections are a fascinating design space, and this tease has Vorthos players salivating.

In lighter news, Maro confirmed that Rom Com World is definitely happening — not a maybe, a certainty. Horrible First Date and We're Just Friends are apparently among his favorite designs. The trope space is enormous and I am fully here for a Charm School meets Enchantment tribal set.

He also clarified that Sagas are stories, not books, so don't expect them to pick up the Book artifact subtype anytime soon. And in a delightful bit, he claims to have erased all knowledge of the Xerex expansion from a fan's memory. April Fool's Maro is best Maro.
